After the crochet sheep brooch, I was still interested in making brooches using the same fur stitch. I am well aware that a Llama has been so over-done in the internet crochet world, but this cute crochet brooch pattern was much needed.

So, here is my crochet brooch pattern for a cute llama, which is an amigurumi pattern but two-dimensional. The llama is worked in continuous rounds, working the fur stitch in the front side alone. This leaves the back side of the llama flat making it an ideal pattern to be used as an applique, brooch or pin.

Items you will need:

  1. White 8 ply acrylic yarn about 50gm. Few strands of assorted colors for the rug that goes on top of the llama.
  2. Tan 8 ply yarn for the face and ears.
  3. Safety pin
  4. Crochet hook: 2.00mm.

Please read before starting the pattern:

I have written in brackets if the stitches have to be worked in the front loops or back loops. Please follow and stitch along to make sure your llama looks right. If you are feeling confused, here’s the link to the crochet along video.

Start to crochet the llama brooch from the bottom, make two legs.

Round 1: Magic circle, 6 sc. (6)
Round 2: [sc,sc, inc] * 2 times. (8)
Round 3: sc, sc, sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 4 times (Work in front loops only).
Note: [sl st, chain 5, sl st] – This is the stitch that makes the loop for the fur.
Round 4: [sl st] * 3 times (front loops), 5 sc (Work in back loops only).
Round 5: sc, sc, sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 4 times (Work in front loops only).

Make two of these legs, and start joining the two.

Round 1: [sl st] * 3 times(front loops), chain 4, [sl st] * 3 times(front loops), 5 sc (back loops), chain 4, 5 sc (back loops).
Round 2: 10 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 13 times (front loops).
Round 3: 10 sl st(front loops), 14 sc (back loops).
Round 4: 10 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 13 times (front loops).

Round 5: 10 sl st (front loops), 14 sc (back loops).
Round 6: 10 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 4 times (front loops), 4 sc (The space where the rug goes), [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 4 times (front loops).

Round 7: 10 sl st (front loops), 5 sc (back loops), 4 sl st(front loops), 5 sc (back loops).
Round 8: 10 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 4 times (front loops), 4 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 5 times (front loops). (Finish off the body)

Start to crochet the neck/head, from the back side.

Count three stitches from your left end of the llama(The stitch where you begin your fur crochet stitches). Insert hook there, attach yarn and start crocheting the following pattern for the neck.

Round 9: 3 sl st (front loops), 5 sc (back loops), chain 1, join.
Round 10: 3 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 5 times (front loops).
Round 11: 3 sl st (front loops), 6 sc (back loops).
Round 12: 3 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 5 times (front loops).
Round 13: 3 sl st (front loops), 5 sc (back loops). (Skip the last single crochet because we want the neck to decrease a bit in size as we head to the head/face)
Round 14: 3 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 4 times (front loops).
Round 15: 3 sl st (front loops), 5 sc (back loops).
Round 16: 3 sc, [sl st, chain 5, sl st] (front loops), 2 sc (space for the head), [sl st, chain 5, sl st] (front loops).
Round 17: 3 sl st (front loops), 5 sc (back loops).
Round 18: [sl st, chain 5, sl st] * 4 times. Make an extra loop at the end and finish off.

Head:

Round 1: Magic cirlce, 6 sc. (6)
Round 2: sc around. (6)
Round 3: sc around. (6)

Ears:

Chain 4, From the second chain from the hook, 3 sc.

Rug:

Use different colors for each row.
Chain 6.
Row 1: 5 sc. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, 5 sc. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, 4 sc. Finish off.

Tip: Sew eyes and finish off. I like to do french knots with yarn for the eyes. What makes it cute is the white little spot on the eyes, made using white embroidery floss.
