Hello, I’m back with another crochet-in-a-day pattern. Or, crochet in a couple of hours project. Makes a cute gift if the yarn colors are chosen appropriately. Hope you have fun making them like I did.

Tortoise’s shell

Starting with the brown/tan colored yarn,

Round 1: Magic Circle, 6sc into the circle & then pull it close. (6)
Round 2: 2sc in each sc around. (12)
Round 3: [sc in the sc, 2sc in the next sc] * 6 times. (18)
Round 4: [sc in the next 2sc, 2sc in the next sc] * 6 times. (24)
Round 5: [sc in the next 3sc, 2sc in the next sc] * 6 times. (30)
Round 6: [sc in the next 4sc, 2sc in the next sc] * 6 times. (36)
Round 7: sc around, back loops only. (36)
Round 8: sc around. (36)
Round 9: [sc in the next 4sc, dec] * 6 times. (30)
(Changing to green color yarn)
Round 10: [sc in the next 3sc, dec] * 6 times. (24)
Round 11: [sc in the next 2sc, dec] * 6 times. (18)
Round 12: [sc, dec] * 6 times. (12)
Round 13: dec * 6 times. (6). Finish off and weave ends.

Tortoise’s head

Starting with a green colored yarn

Round 1: Magic Circle, 6sc into the circle & then pull it close. (6)
Round 2: 2sc in each sc around. (12)
Round 3: [sc in the sc, 2sc in the next sc] * 6 times. (18)
Round 4: sc around. (18)
Round 5: sc around. (18)
Round 6: [sc, dec] * 6 times. (12)
Round 7: dec * 6 times. (6) ( These rounds form the neck of the tortoise)
Round 8: sc around. (6)
Round 9: sc around. (6)
Round 10: sc around. (6)
Round 11: sc around. (6)
Finish off and start sewing the head to the body. Round 3 is where the eyes are placed. Make sure you pinch the head and sew back and forth where the eyes would be placed with an embroidery thread and needle so that the head appears oval in shape.

Tortoise’s legs

Make four of these in green and attach it to the body.

Round 1: Magic Circle, 6sc into the circle & then pull it close. (6)
Round 2: sc around. (6)
Round 3: sc around. (6)
Round 4: sc around. (6)
